bazaar
   (bah-ZAHR) [Persian] A marketplace, particularly a large public market in a Middle Eastern city. A sale of miscellaneous items to raise money for a charitable cause.
   The widowed mother of two lost her life savings to looters ushered in by men who arrived in trucks and broke open the steel doors of the bazaar. —Time, May 31, 1999.
